Deteriorating vision can be caused by several factors including:

~ A change in prescription

~ A change in focusing status of your eyes

~ Age related changes

~ Dry eyes

~ Medication induced changes

~ Ocular or systemic diseases

Our optometrist will help you to determine what may be causing your issues and provide a solution.

Should you experienced a change in vision or any pain, you should seek professional advice as soon possible.

What does a full eye test involve?

During a complete eye exam, our optometrist takes a close look at your eyes and does several tests. Some tests check your vision and determine if you need glasses or contacts. Other tests assess your eye health and check for eye disease. An eye examination can help providers evaluate your overall eye health.

Diabetes

Diabetes is the largest and fastest growing health issue we face in New Zealand, with over 250,000 New Zealanders already diagnosed. Diabetic retinopathy is the second most preventable cause of blindness in New Zealand and as there is no cure, early detection is critical to manage and prevent sight-loss associated with diabetes.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a long-term disease causing vision loss in the central field of vision, affecting over 14% of New Zealanders over 50. Early detection and treatment may involve special eye medications, medical procedures, and lifestyle remedies.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye condition that damages the optic nerve, vital for vision. It can occur at any age, but is more common in older adults and is a leading cause of blindness for those over 60. Early detection and regular eye exams are crucial for slowed or prevented vision loss, and treatment or monitoring is necessary for life.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, which is typically clear. For people who have cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Clouded vision caused by cataracts can make it more difficult to read, drive a car at night or see the expression on a friend's face.

Most cataracts develop slowly and don't disturb eyesight early on. But with time, cataracts will eventually affect vision.

Retina

The retina is a layer of photoreceptorscells and glial cells within the eye that captures incoming photons and transmits them along neuronal pathways as both electrical and chemical signals for the brain to perceive a visual picture.

Our clinic offers a full range of contact lens treatments for conditions ranging from simple refractive error to therapeutic contact lenses for irregular corneas.
